Interest in home automation has been heating up and for a typical home DIY’er, the main competitors are Nexia (formerly Schlage Link) and MiCasaVerde. But which one is right for you? I’ve been using Nexia for over a year and it has been invaluable for our vacation home. We can add lock codes to allow guest to enter without us being there, I can set the thermostat before we head up there so it’s comfortable when we arrive and we can have lights turn on automatically when I unlock the door. The reasons I started to look closer at MiCasaVerde is flexibility to automate more types of devices and no monthly fees which I currently pay $9/mo for. But will I miss my Nexia system?
