ACTi E97 10MP & E96 5MP (Fisheye) Mini-Domes – Preview

At the ASIS conference in Chicago last week, I was wowed by some of the new cameras that ACTi is releasing over the next few months. The first of which are the E97 10MP and E96 5MP Fisheye indoor mini-domes.  I was not able to get my hands on them on them yet but wanted to get the word out due to promotional pricing. The E96 is available now, the E97 will be available in a month.

Main Features

  • 10 Megapixel
  • Super Wide Angle Lens with f3.6 mm/ F1.8 (101.4 degree viewing angle)
  • 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor
  • Basic WDR
  • MicrosSDHC Card slot
  • 30 fps at 1920 x 1080 – 6 fps at 3648 x 2736
  • Vandal Resistant (IK08)

The camera is small, fits in the palm of your hand, one of ACTi’s first mini-domes. The image quality at the ASIS show looked very good. This is a indoor day camera (no IR cut filter) and requires white light but works down to 0.1 lux per their specs which is pretty good considering the resolution. The lens has a very wide angle viewing angle of over 101 degrees which leverages the advantage of having 10MP yet still be able to ID someone. You may be able to use less of these cameras than typical 1080P cameras to cover the same area.

You can view the promotional video on the E97 10MP Mini Dome HERE

The other camera they came out with is the E96 mini dome which has a cool Fisheye lens.

Main Features

  • 5 Megapixel
  • Hemispheric Fisheye Lens with f1.19 mm/ F2.0 (180 degree viewing angle)
  • 1/3.2″ CMOS sensor
  • Basic WDR
  • MicrosSDHC Card slot
  • 15 fps at 2592 x 1944
  • Vandal Resistant (IK08)

Same small size as the E97. The fisheye view displays a round image or into separate slices that are corrected and looks like you have 4 separate cameras. This may allow you to use 1 camera where you had 2-4 cameras before covering a room. Since this just launched, only ACTi’s free NVR3 software does the correction. Milestone is expected to support this feature in the near future. Also, some people asked me if they use 3rd party software like Milestone XProtect and display 4 image from one camera, will they be charged for a single camera license or 4 and all the vendors I asked charge just for one camera license.

For a short time in October, Wrightwood Surveillance (www.WrightwoodSurveillance.com) has a introductory price of $260 for the E96 5MP Fisheye and when the E97 becomes available in early November, they said it should go for an introductory price $300.

Do you have any info on the new 10MP E77? I see it at Wrightwood for $279 and was wondering if I should jump on it since I was previously considering the 5MP E73

I don’t see any other place to post a general question . . .

I was wondering if you have any interest in reviewing the NVR+ software by Linovision.

I don’t have anything to do with the company, just curious about reading a review.
http://www.linovision.com/en/solutions/nvr.html

Apparently their store page has some problems, but from an inquiry about the cost for working with a Dahua system, I got back via email :

= = = = = = =
Do you want PC based NVR+ software license for Dahua DVR/NVR? the price is varied from the channels.
For 4ch DVR/NVR: the NVR+ license is 40USD;
For 8ch DVR/NVR: the NVR+ license is 60USD;
For 16ch DVR/NVR: the NVR+ license is 80USD;
= = = = = = =

Best,

Kent

Why is that new mini-domes are being released with simply more megapixels but they all still require white light & have no IR?

I understand these are indoor. Is this because their not IP66 rated or because they don’t have IR. If they could be used outside as a daytime camera only it seems like a great deal still.
Seems every 3 or 4 months they are coming out with better and better cameras.
I’d love the 10mp as an outdoor for yard coverage.

I’m back to apologize for being a complete grump about Wrightwood. I messed up my order. I usually use Dragon Naturally Speaking but this time I used the keyboard and I’m a terrible typist.

I got a nice email from Nicole at Wrightwood and I’m going to to order the fisheye from them now nd be quietly grumpy until the 10 mp camera becomes available.

I went to Wrightwood Surveillance and immediately ordered the E96 which was on their website. A few hours later my Paypal payment was reversed and the camera is now not on their website.

No email of explanation from Wrightwood. Very Annoying.
