New discussion forum for network camera enthusiasts

Many people angry with the German owned cam-it forum for their strict censorship are abandoning that forum and going to a new forum, IPCamTalk found at http://www.ipcamtalk.com.

In addition to IPCamTalk.com, CCTVForum.com has been a popular forum with a section for network camera discussions that can be found here – http://www.cctvforum.com/viewforum.php?f=19

Two network camera discussion forums that have lost steam are NetworkCameraReviews.com and CCTV-Resource.com with only a few sporadic posts per week.

Discussion forums are a great way to ask questions and have people respond that have overcome some of the issues you may be having and then pay it forward by helping out a newbie using the knowledge gained from your experience.

I have a Synology NAS and want to get started with ip cameras to use with the Surveillance Station. Synology posts a compatibility list so good there and have read through numerous reviews on your site which are fantastic and easy to understand. My question is what is the best way to compare and select? I want to have 1-2 indoor cameras and 2 outdoor (front and back yard).

I was doing research for a NAS that works with the Hikvision cameras. I have found the Asustor NAS has a surveillance center app that comes with 4 cameras license and you can purchase additional licenses as needed. Have you heard or seen this NAS device? I currently have a Thecus NAS but you are not able to create individual partitions.

If I buy Dahua NVR4208-8POE and 3MP cameras how do I change settings on cameras? By software on NVR or do I have to install software on my computer? I dont understand. Also if I get Dahua PTZ that doesnt have POE how do I hook it up to NVR? I know they come with power supply that I could run extension cord to power camera because POE is not powerful enough. Are Dahua cameras plug and play even if I get them from different sellers on Ebay etc.? I worried about getting cameras and them not working out of box.Thx again

I am looking for advice on building a camera system on my own as opposed to buying camera system in a box. I just bought the Lorex 1080p 4 poe 2 tb 4 camera system from BJs for $749.I was using a brand new 1080p Samsung led tv I bought also just for cameras. I used it for 3 weeks and decided to return it because the picture was very grainy even when set at 1080p. It looked like the cameras even in daylight were going in and out of focus when they are supposed to be fixed lens. It did not look anything like your videos you posted to you tube. Also there was no camera software so I couldn’t change any settings like you do on dahua cameras in your review. I only got 10 days 24/7 with 3 cameras hooked up until 2TB was full. Also I want to be able to upgrade in the future and can only buy Lorex cameras. I also want to get a PTZ camera too. I want a stand alone NVR as I have a 15 year old Dell desktop and don’t really want to get a new computer to run… Read more »

Hi

You have really nice website.

Could you recommend online store in europe which sells inexpensive 720P-1080P PTZ Pelco D 12+ optical zoom (indoor) HD-SDI cameras?

Thanks

Can anyone recommend a PoE camera suitable for viewing driveway (35′) for both good day and night images that costs less than $400?
I tried an ACTi E77 and was not satisfied with the night images – way too grainy. I did get a recommendation for an E76 which is about $100 more expensive and 2mp vs 10mp for the E77. It doesn’t have to be an ACTi but a well respected brand. Thanks

Hi,

Absolutely you are right but now this time has been came for using updated camera. This camera is growing on me. I would like to provide better lens & i think the image would improve a lot. Overall I’m happy with this camera although I wish it was easier to setup like a Axis product.

Hi there

Do you think you will be doing more reviews of NVR products? I really enjoy the camera reviews but would like to see some NVR reviews. I am looking at the Hikvision DS-7716NI-SP/16 but truthfully any nvr reviews would be great.

Thank you for this awesome site
